Vitamin G: A Powerful Way to Start Everyday!

Gratitude-is-the-hearts-memory-a-French-proverb1Gratitude, another key to happiness and well-being. We all know this innately, but sometimes it’s like forgetting to put our napkin in our lap or turning off the light before we exit a room.
Gratitude is more than an intellectual exercise of just giving thanks or uttering the platitude, “I feel blessed today”. Not of course that those things aren’t true, but it is the ability to really feel this emotion.  When we drop into our heart we activate a consciousness and create a new reality ; this is where the magic happens!

I remember saying grace every evening at the dinner table growing up.  It was the prerequisite to beginning the family meal, and looking back, it felt more like sitting at a red light, waiting for the signal to turn green–and permission to GO. This morning, when I look around at all the hardship and  daily struggle, my gratitude extends to many things in my life; I note my beautiful home, my purposeful career, my friends–and family. My boys are good,  my health excellent–and my parents still alive in their 80’s.  And, although I am no longer 30, I have more life lessons under my belt.   I have more experience, wisdom and insight that melds with who I have become today.  I look forward to whatever the future brings.

So, gratitude for me is about really feeling it in my heart. It’s yours to own as well when we are able to get out of our head. The heart, is 5000 times more powerful than our left-brain intellect. The hearts mystery contains the powerful feminine-side of our emotions, feelings and love. It is the seed which is able to move mountains–that tiny seed when nurtured is able to grow through the toughest conditions.  It all begins with intention. Do we show love and have gratitude for our earth, the plants and animals–our forests and oceans and all the abundance contained therein?

I send the challenge out to you too: gratitude for 60 seconds today? And, if you are having a really “bad”day, can you think of just one thing–and then notice how you feel? What about one more? Better huh. On a good day these things are easy– but the power comes when we are challenged. So, what do you have gratitude for, and what does it feel like when we choose from our heart?  After all, recent studies indicate, about 40 percent of our own happiness is entirely within our control.  What if it was even higher than that?  100 percent?  Who knows?

A massage for our soul, certainly our mind, and also the place the seeds to health, and wellness are nurtured and grow.  And, by the way, gratitude and happiness include at wide range of health benefits for us including, less incidence of strokes.  We have better immunity against colds and flu.  We have less pain, lower cortisol levels, less stress and inflammation in our body. Like a beautiful garden, see what shows up in your life when the seeds of gratitude are planted! Better than any supplement. Happy is healthy. Have you had your energetic and transforming Vitamin G today?

gratitude

GMO’s – Time to Take Action!

How Do GMO's affect our Health?I am passing this on because it is important that we all band together with the BIG GMO issue.  Politicians have been bought and paid for and whatever else goes on with big money, greed and power!  It is simply up to us.  Get informed–vote with your dollars–and tune into this upcoming Mini-Summit with John Robbins and Jeffrey Smith as they uncover the truths about GMO’s.  Here is what they have to say . . .

The scary truth about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) is being deliberately kept from you…

Fact: Your food has been unnaturally changed. These changes have very SERIOUS consequences.

Your family’s health is at risk and you deserve the TRUTH…

Jeffrey and John and a whole host of others are going to share with you the true effects of genetically engineered food

on human health and the environment. You’re invited to join their panel of experts, researchers and activists

in an inspirational and free, 3-day GMO Summit October 25-27, 2013.

This is a virtual event you can enjoy at no cost from the comfort and convenience of your own home.
If you want to know the TRUTH about GMOs and the risks Monsanto, the government, their paid advisors and the media are deliberately hiding from you, then join in this unique, free summit.
The GMO Mini Summit is for you if:

You’re unsure what Genetically Modified Foods are and you’re worried you may have already been affected.
You’re frightened about GMOs and the future of our food.
While you prioritize your health, and are diligent about eating wisely, you’re still experiencing allergies, food sensitivities, weight or intestinal issues, and you wonder if GMO foods might be to blame. You’ve read articles and maybe even seen documentaries about GMOs, but you feel even more confused from all the conflicting evidence.
You do your best to eat unprocessed, organic food, but you’re not sure if you’re still unintentionally consuming GMOs.
You’d like to be able to explain GMOs to family and friends in a quick way anyone can understand.
You’re outraged at Monsanto’s irresponsible corporate behavior and want to know how to take action in a way that will make the biggest impact.
You’re on a budget or live where organic foods aren’t available, and would like to know how to avoid GMOs without necessarily having to buy “organic”. You want to know how to avoid GMO foods in grocery stores and restaurants.
You want to support labeling initiatives like Washington’s I-522, and you want to become better informed so you can be an effective spokesperson and advocate. You care about healthy food for a healthy and thriving planet.

together. At age 16, he co-founded Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES!), and went on to direct it for the

next 20 years.

Ocean’s work has taken him all over the world, where he has seen first-hand the powerful impact of the food

we eat – not just on our health, but on people and economies everywhere. He is co-author, with his dad,

Changes Deep Within Our Cells? You Decide!

Lightning_Bolt_by_UndeadSamurai01A meteorologist will profess thunder and lightning is simply the mixture of two fronts; warm and cool air colliding. Yet, is thunder and lightning a deeper message from Mother Nature and spirit? Is there a deeper meaning?  Does this effect our DNA in a quantum way? We are becoming very clear how vibration, sound and light therapy can be used in therapeutic ways. Could it be about cleansing and change? Does the earth respond to human consciousness and we to it? Do we respond to this intense energy at the level of our cells? Is energy the great equalizer–bringing things together, and taking them apart?  Could this intense energy be seen as the rector or tinker toy set in the universe? After all, trees, mountains, beaches–and cities may stand for centuries only to be changed in a single storm.

Way beyond our physical awareness of wind, clouds, lightening, thunder and pouring rain, is a storm–just a storm?  Are thunderstorms like dramatic performances? At at the conclusion we are forever altered? Some of us, I know, even taking our last breaths as the expressions we are, as our soul moves into another dimension and reality?

Most of us, just notice the rain. The downpour coming off the roof tops and splashing out of gutters, flooded streets and the speed of our wipers tracking across our windshields. We notice and acknowledge the intensity of the lightning. Often times, it has stopped me in my tracks as it shakes my home.  We may certainly call it  energy in its purest form. And if energy cannot be created or destroyed, what does it reshape? Listen to the thunder sometime–a cacophony of sounds.  But do we really understand its true meaning and purpose? Maybe someday we will! Thoughts to ponder.  But for me,  I will never look and listen at a thunderstorm with the same eyes and meaning again.

‘De-Stressing’ our Lives

Maybe a small Herb Garden would fit you?

Maybe a small Herb Garden would fit you?

I awoke this morning–my “to do” list seemed to grow overnight.  The last several weeks have been fraught with mechanical breakdowns; the aging air conditioner, my car battery, a cantankerous refrigerator, a hairline crack in my iPad, taxes, keeping my household’s daily maintenance and routine flowing as smoothly as possible–and  fulfilling my purposeful health coaching practice demands.  All good!  I reminded myself this week, there is no destination, yet the journey is at times challenging!

Each of us in our own way–on our own schedule is juggling  work, health, activities, relationships–and life.  So how do we “de-stress” our lives?  After all, stress is a big factor that contributes to dis-ease and illness.

I began my day, with good intentions, and a few minutes of quiet meditation.  Sunday, a wonderful yoga class offered at the gym and has quickly become a ‘new tradition’ over the past 12 months.  I look forward to the familiar melodious voice of the instructor as he drives the poses, stretches, and breathing.  Each minute that passes seems to pull the tension from the muscles and space within my body at some level of unconscious awareness.  Leaving class after the traditional “Namaste”, I always feel much lighter.  Ah, what great stress reliever.

Relieving stress is as important as organic food, positive thoughts, healthy careers, supportive relationships, creativity & sound home environments.  Each spoke on the wheel reinforcing the integrity of the hub–in this case–us.  Frequently and chronically we lead stressful, frenzied lives full of anxiety.  We all to often struggle to balance all of our roles and then wonder not only why we can’t do it all–but why happiness and joy seem to allude us as well.  The conundrum of modern life.  Where is the harmony? Perhaps, staying true to ourselves, accepting and enjoying the simple pleasures which create lasting happiness and realizing the craziness must take a backseat wherever possible!  Simplify.

How do you de-stress your life?  I’d love to hear.   I’ve come up with a few  suggestions that I offer you today.  See if any of these resonate with you.  For me, when things spiral upward, my reprieve is a few quiet moments sitting on the beach–listening and watching the waves.

  • Take a walk
  • Try a warm bubble bath
  • Choose healthy relationships that support you
  • Listen to music
  • Get creative; write, paint or draw
  • Try aromatherapy such as lavender oil
  • Make yourself a cup of chamomile tea
  • Take yourself to a “time-out” for 5 minutes peace
  • Start a small garden that gives you pleasure and gets you into nature
  • Prioritize and eliminate the non-essential.
  • Give yourself permission and know that most things can wait and the world will not fall apart if they don’t get done TODAY!
  • Laugh
  • Food affects our emotions and our mood; pick wisely.
  • Breathe

The Flying Trapeze; Profound and Simple

Park girl on swing for class

Life–the more confusion–the more in the moment–the better we are doing it?  Seems like a conundrum. Not to have it all “figured out”? When I think I have finally figured out part of my life, like a mirage, it disappears like stratus clouds on a peaceful afternoon.  Unpredictability. Ambiguity. Indecision.  Hesitancy. Only  an illusion?  The true perception is the point to which I stand?  Can I be only the observer? This confusion I face,  is the place where creativity is best; wisdom from the Universe.  Both mine and yours to harness? I share this piece called “The Flying Trapeze.” I identified with it immediately. Simple and profound. Reflect for a moment. Can you identify these moments in your life, afraid to let go of one bar–that you could not catch the next?  My divorce was one for me; school another. But, alas, I have all been able to always catch the next swinging bar, swinging even higher.  And I ask, how can I better transition and catch the next with out my fears? Or is this just part of our humanness and growth?  Is it learning how to trust that the next bar will always be there and it wouldn’t swing if I weren’t ready to catch it! Happy Swinging!

(If you have read this before–enjoy–it is a great reminder.)

Be Well, Cathy, Certified Holistic Health Counselor

http://www.cathysilverhealth.com

Sometimes, I feel that my life is a series of trapeze swings. I’m either hanging on to a trapeze bar swinging along or, for a few moments, I’m hurdling across space between the trapeze bars.

Mostly, I spend my time hanging on for dear life to the trapeze bar of the moment. It carries me along a certain steady rate of seeing and I have the feeling that I’m in control. I know most of the right questions, and even some of the right answers. But once in a while, as I’m merrily, or not so merrily, swinging along, I look ahead of me into the distance, and what do I see?

I see another trapeze bar looking at me. It’s empty. And I know, in that place in me that knows, that this new bar has my name on it. It is my next step, my growth, my aliveness coming to get me. In my heart of hearts I know that for my to grow, I must release my grip on the present well-known bar to move to the new one.

Each time that happens, I hope–no, I pray–that I won’t have to grab the new one. but in my knowing place, I know that I must totally release my grasp on my old bar, and for some moments in time I must hurdle across space before I can grab the new bar. Each time I do this I am felled with terror. It doesn’t matter that in all my previous hurdles I have always made it.

Each time I am afraid I will miss, that I will be crushed on unseen rocks in the bottomless basin between the bars.

But I do it anyway. I must.

Perhaps this is the essence of what the mystics call faith. No guarantees, no net, no insurance, but we do it anyway because hanging on to that old bar is not longer an option. And so, for what seems to be an eternity but actually lasts a microsecond. I soar across the dark void called “the past is over, the future is not yet here.” It’s called a transition. I have come to believe that is it the only place that real change occurs.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the transition zone is the only real thing, and that the bars are the illusions we dream up to not notice the void. Yes, with all the fear that can accompany transitions, they are still the most vibrant, growth filled, passionate moments in our lives.

And so transformation of fear may have nothing to do with making fear go away, but rather giving ourselves permission to “hang out” in the transition zone–between the trapeze bars–allowing ourselves to dwell in the only place where change really happens.

It can be terrifying. It can also be enlightening.

Hurdling through the void, we just may learn to fly.

A look “behind the scenes” – Juicings’ magical phytonutrients

Firing up my juicer once again, I have begun to explore new recipes. This is a delicious apple-beet juice with lemon, pear and ginger that comes out of a juicing book by Pat Crocker. I was giving a “Sugar Blues” talk at the Hollywood Healing Center and wanted the refreshments to reflect and represent alternatives to the usual fare of snacks. I share one today and give you a few behind the scenes look at the ingredients and what they offer our cells, tissues and well-being.  For those unfamiliar with the benefits of juicing it is certainly worth exploration.

Beet Juice Cocktail

Hippocrates: “Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

2 apples
1 pear
3 beets
1/2 lemon
1 – 1/2″ piece gingerroot

Put all ingredients through your juicer. Stir and pour into glasses and enjoy!

Did you know???  This is partial and abbreviated–just to give you an idea what a fresh-organic produce offers . . . who knew!

Beets: are antibacterial, antioxidant, cleansing. They strengthen and nourish the liver and gallbladder. They are an excellent source of potassium and are cleansing for the liver, kidneys and gallbladder.
Apples:  are a tonic, digestive, diuretic, detoxifying, cholesterol lowering, anti rheumatic, and liver stimulant. Fresh apples help to cleanse the system, lower blood cholesterol levels. They help to eliminate toxins and are a good source of vitamin A, B, C riboflavin as well as the phytochemicals pectin and boron.
Lemon: this small yellow fruit is amazing. To name a few benefits consider they aid in digestion, act as a laxative and diuretic. They have both antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. Lemons support liver function improve the absorption of minerals, cleanse the blood and are useful in treating high blood pressure.
Ginger: contained in half of all Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines, they were listed as a taxable commodity by the Romans in 200 A.D. How can you begin to incorporate ginger into your modern lifestyle? Ginger is great for nausea. It relieves headaches and arthritis as it is an anti-inflammatory and circulatory stimulant. By increasing circulation, it helps effect a systemic cleansing through the skin, bowels, and kidneys. It also destroys many internal parasites and helps to normalize blood pressure.
Pears: used to energize the stomach, spleen and lungs. The pear is used in the treatment of diabetes, hot cough, gallbladder obstruction and constipation. The pectin in pears reduces serum cholesterol and cleanses the body of environmental and radioactive toxins.

Just as this recipe and these fruits and veggies contain many micro-nutrients that the causal observer  fails to notice on first glance, and that I might add are not contained in a particular supplement, whole food nutrition will bring benefits beyond what we think we know about eating healthy.  Each recipe and fruit delivers nutritional benefits in the way nothing else can. Our body and its innate wisdom together with Mother Natures innate wisdom provide a much higher vibration for our body than the man-made manufactured “educated” guess that selectively segments one or two nutrients and calls it the next great miracle.  Isn’t time we get back to basics? To me they work in such a way to create the symphony and composition of total health and wellness; one that we cannot possible out guess! There seems to be no short-cuts and no magic pill!  See if you can begin to open your mind to the possibility of fresh juicing and take your health to the next level!

Detoxing . . .

A time-tested brand!

A time-tested brand!

You know it is nothing to schedule an appointment for our car; taking it in for routine preventive maintenance is totally within our accepted cultural meme. Changing the oil, or air filter is expected. But ask someone about a detox and all sorts of triggers and resistance come up for most in our society and those who suggest such ideas are often thought of as crazy, deranged or nut cases!

I pose this to you–What if an annual, or bi-annual detox for your colon, kidney’s and liver might possibly save you from trouble on down the road?

I know the argument from the medical doctors, most who have never ever had a nutrition class, argue that the body is designed not to need such measures?

I would propose that:

1.) our body’s weren’t designed to depend on pharmaceuticals and drastic interventions and

2.) we weren’t meant to live in such a toxic, artificial, and chemicalized world exposed to all sorts of substances that put real strain on our body and in-turn our organs which filter these unknown and unnatural substances daily– assaulted to such extreme irritation and early degeneration? (for a minute consider the pesticides, genetically modified unlabeled ‘food’ or the processed artificial ingredients and chemicals we cannot pronounce added to the food we consume each day).

So, with spring here, and everyone looking for ways to maintain or improve their health and vitality, consider a detox or cleanse.

I am getting ready to do another–this time a kidney cleanse–why not–a little preventive maintenance on my car goes a long way–so why not me?  The cleanses support my intention of living a long healthy productive and purposeful life!  What about you?

If I Could See Something What Would it Be?

” Know Nothing, Access everything, Get out-of-the-way.” A conversation with Universal Consciousness. “No-thing” means ALL. Profound thoughts! For the last five days I attended and completed Richard Bartlett’s workshop levels 1, 2, and 3 learning about what he calls Matrix Energetics. This workshop examines what we observe beyond our physical senses based on our filtered perceptions, memes and morphic fields. What do we really know? Our left brain is constantly trying to sort and make sense of our world. But what if we could move beyond consciousness of what we think we know? His information is based on science, and the body’s own subtle energy and his gift for magic and miracles. It is cutting edge healing and transformation at its best, and it is based on pure intent and the heart field electromagnetic energy. Here one must move from the head to heart. After all, the Heart is 5000 x’s more powerful than the head/brain.
In the room were 200+ people–including physicians, construction principles and healers all learning about accessing the unlimited zero-point energy field and the unlimited energy of the universe. For in reality, problems are only patterns and when we learn to play and unravel those patterns, new patterns of information can manifest through an infinite range of possibilities available to us all. In the end, coherence is only beliefs, opinions and thoughts. And, as Richard says, it’s the space between the space where miracles occur.

Spring cleaning; How does that look for you?

Beginning signs of springtime--

On March 20th the sun shines directly on the equator and the night and day are nearly exactly the same in length–12 hours–all over the world; the spring equinox. For us another season.  Spring or springtime is known as a time of renewal, rejuvenation and rebirth.

For some it may mean melting snow and softer breezes or noticing the beauty of the first spring flowers;  crocuses, daffodils or tulips as they merge from their hibernation. Each culture and region have their own customs and their own reminders.

For me it is the inspiration of opening up my home and shaking out the dust–maybe a bit metaphorically now since South Florida is where I live, but a shift is definitely in the air and certainly can be felt on many levels.

Today, I am starting to think about new recipes and new tastes reflected in my choices to eat–about my yearning and desire for new seasonal foods.  I have begun juicing and detoxing rituals. As the cooler weather waves good-bye, I find myself anxious to fire up my Vitamix and begin to make my trade-mark green shakes which I graciously offer to share with all who walk through my kitchen door. Somehow, my body’s innate intelligence seems to know this as I begin to think about foods that I have not really had a desire for in months.

Our ancestors ate seasonally because they had no other options. Newly sprouted greens came up in the spring, fruit ripened in summer, root vegetables sustained them in the fall and animal sources got them through the winter. Alkaline food makes the body detox. How wonderful that nature provides this naturally–leafy greens, berries, cherries, grapefruits, asparagus, spinach, and dandelion greens or wheatgrass come to mind, to cleanse the body from the heavier foods we have enjoyed throughout the colder winter months and that were needed for our survival.

What is your ritual? Are you craving something new? Is it time to begin to detox our systems–flooding our cells with fresh green juices? How can we begin to live in harmony with the natural cycles? Is it a great excuse to try a new way of doing something–perhaps buying local produce from a farmers market once a week?  Maybe it is a “Food upgrade”? Choosing less chemicalized, processed, packaged or drive-through meals?  Whatever you chose, think of the rebirth and renewal of yourself–your cells.  Honor yourself and live in harmony with your body and Mother Earth–treat yourself to the best food you can afford because in the end as Jim Rohn says, “It’s the only place you have to live.”

Maybe a Kitchen Herb Garden would fit you?

In Love and Light,

Pesticide Residues in Produce

As I ran into Whole Foods to quickly gather fresh organic ingredients for a pot of homemade chicken soup–I found that they had just run out of celery. Much to my dismay and to the young lady in the isle next to me–we inquired–and we’re told–No. They were sold out and would not have anymore until tomorrow. We briefly chatted, and I mentioned that celery was one of the worst in pesticide residue–apples are #1. So, I again put this information out for everybody to see. It is important that we increase our awareness. Our personal food choices not only have an impact on our bodies, and our health, but also the health of our environment.

Produce with the most residues.

Produce with the most residues.

20130218-193548.jpg

This information comes directly out of the book, Integrative Nutrition by Joshua Rosenthal.

“The Produce ranking, developed by analysts at Environmental Working Group (EWG), is based on the results of nearly 51,000 tests for pesticide residues on produce collected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration between 2000 and 2009. EWG is a not-for-profit environmental research organization dedicated to improving public health and protecting the Environment.”
